The Old Shades (known as Les Vieilles Ombres in French) is situated in the Charente Maritime region,  famous for its long summers and mild winters.  Its 370 kilometer stretch of the Atlantic Coast boasts some of the most beautiful costal scenery, with long beaches of white sand combined with pine woods and rugged cliffs.

Located in the village of Bagnizeau just 4 minutes from the market town of Matha which has many shops and amenities. We are also within easy reach of Cognac, Saintes, Angouleme, St Jean D'Angely, La Rochelle and many more places of interest.  The beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast are within an hours drive.  There is so much to do in the beautiful countryside surrounding us golf, cycling, horse riding, walking, fishing to name but a few.  A tour of the local vineyards to sample the famous Cognac, Pineau and wine is a must during your stay with us.  For the children a visit to the world famous zoo at Royan and of course the aquarium at La Rochelle will help keep them amused throughout your holiday.
